LISTINGS

What can I post?

You can post full- and part-time job opportunities within the outdoor industry. You can post freelance opportunities, internships, seasonal gigs, events tied to the outdoor industry and lifestyle and classified ads.

What is considered the outdoor industry?

The outdoor industry generally refers to the industry that caters to human-powered recreational sports done in the great outdoors: hiking, backpacking, camping, skiing, snowboarding, surfing, paddleboarding, fly-fishing, mountain biking, road cycling, kayaking, rafting, rock climbing, trail and road running, mountaineering, and more.

Jobs within the outdoor industry range from positions within brands and non-profits to jobs out in the field, like guides and park rangers.

We also welcome jobs and gigs from other industries that are located in dreamy outdoor locations.

What can I post as a full- or part-time job?

Full- or part-time jobs are positions that are considered on-staff and don’t generally have an end date.

Why do you encourage me to share the position’s salary range?

Transparency with compensation has multiple benefits. First, it allows efficiency in the hiring process by eliminating wasted time for both the hiring company and potential employees when salary expectations are different. Second, by exposing the salary, you work to close the wage gap for both women and minorities. Note: Colorado requires salary information by law.

What can I post as a freelance, seasonal or contract gig?

Freelance and contract jobs are those that are one-off or ongoing but for a temporary period of time. Examples include: “We need a photographer for a brand shoot this weekend in Jackson Hole” or “We’re looking for a contract writer for six months” or “I’m looking for writers to submit pitches on XYZ.”

What can I post as an industry event?

Industry events should be open to the public: film festivals, brand-sponsored meet-ups, job fairs, outdoor-related festivals, etc. We highly encourage posters to include a unique discount code for Basecamp Weekly readers when the event has a ticket fee.

What can I post as a classified ad?

This is a great space to sell old outdoor gear, announce a product launch, search for housing or offer a house rental you own (dreamy outdoor locations only), solicit sponsors, share your Kickstarter campaign, etc.

How much does it cost to post a listing?

$30 per week.

What is the deadline to submit my listing?

Tuesdays at 10 am Pacific Time. Submissions are accepted on Tuesdays between 10 am and 6 pm with a $29 Rush Fee.

FEATURED MEMBERS

How do you select the Featured Member?

The Featured Member is selected based on the completeness of a submission form as well as the quality of the photo. We also curate using a deep understanding of our community and whom we think will be able to leverage this space the most.

We are consciously working towards building a more inclusive environment within the outdoor industry by intentionally prioritizing a diverse mix of candidates — in particular, women, people of color, LGBTQIA+, disabled and plus-size folks.

We also provide Featured Members with a suite of content ideas and assets on how to share their feature with their own communities.

Basecamp History

How did Basecamp start?

Ali Carr, a former Outside magazine editor, started Basecamp in 2017 when she was job-hunting within the outdoor industry. There was no dynamic, interactive space for the industry and she loved the way Facebook jobs groups allowed candidates to communicate directly with hiring managers. So, she invited 200 of her closest industry friends and asked each of them to invite 10 industry people and — boom — we had a collaborative, opportunity-yielding group.

Who is Ali Carr?

Ali Carr is an award-winning writer and editor, copywriter, community manager, and forever entrepreneur with on-staff editorial experience at Outside, Wirecutter (The New York Times), and Gear Patrol. She spent six years at Outside as a gear editor honing her industry Rolodex. Her 2018 feature about her dad’s disappearance at sea in Outside’s November issue won a gold medal from the Society of American Travel Writers. She’s also worked at Travel + Leisure, Microsoft, Hayter Communications and, most recently, in Nike’s incubator lab.
